A missile launched from Yemen struck central Israel on Sunday, near the main terminal of Ben-Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv. Flights were temporarily suspended, but no fatalities were reported. The Israeli military attempted to intercept the missile, and an impact was confirmed in the airport’s vicinity. The incident is under review. The Israel emergency ambulance service treated two people injured by the blast and a third person who sustained injuries while seeking shelter. Social media footage showed a large plume of smoke near Terminal 3, the main international flight terminal, where sirens were heard and people were running for cover. A road close to the airport was covered in dirt and shrapnel. Following the attack, the Israel Airport Authority announced the suspension of flights but expected operations to resume soon. The Iranian-backed Houthi militia has been targeting Israel with missiles in support of Hamas in Gaza, resuming the launches after Israel’s cease-fire in the war there ended in mid-March. Although the Israeli military successfully intercepts most missiles, fragments often fall across Israel. Myra Noveck, Adam Rasgon, and Gabby Sobelman contributed to the reporting.
