Missile Hits Hotel in Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Birthplace.

A Russian missile struck a hotel in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, in central Ukraine, before dawn on Thursday, killing at least four people and injuring over 30 others. The Ukrainian authorities stated that just before the attack, volunteers from a humanitarian organization had checked into the hotel and fortunately managed to flee in time. Mr. Zelensky emphasized the need for consistent pressure on Russia to stop the war and terror-related activities.

As rescue efforts were underway in Kryvyi Rih, air-defense units across Ukraine scrambled to defend against incessant bombardments, which have become a norm during the winter. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched two ballistic missiles and 112 drones, including some with fake warheads aimed at exhausting air defenses. Although most of the drones were shot down, it remains unclear if either of the missiles was intercepted.

Concerns have grown regarding Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities after the United States announced a suspension of military and intelligence assistance to the nation. The American-made Patriot system has been Ukraine’s most dependable defense against Russia’s sophisticated ballistic missiles. The absence of American military support could leave Ukrainians vulnerable without the required interceptor missiles and defense systems.

Ukrainian authorities have been working to reassure the public that they are addressing the consequences of the sudden withdrawal of military support from their key ally. As Kyiv pressures Washington to oppose Russia and avoid weakening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, Ukraine is also appealing directly to the American public for support. Both operators of Patriot systems and F-16 fighter pilots have called on the American people to stand with Ukraine.

Despite claims by President Trump that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to peace negotiations, Russia’s unrelenting bombardment of Ukrainian infrastructure and towns has intensified since their last conversation. Over 70 civilians have been killed in these attacks, with the majority occurring in areas close to the front lines. Russian warplanes have targeted Kostiantynivka, a major logistics center for Ukrainian forces, with increased ferocity.

Rescue crews in Kryvyi Rih are continuing to search through the debris of the damaged hotel. Witnesses, including Liudmyla Taran and journalist Dmytro Klymenko, described the fear and panic caused by the sudden missile strike. Dmytro narrowly escaped the attack and expressed sympathy for those who suffered as a result of Russia’s actions. Additional reporting was provided by Liubov Sholudko and Natalia Novosolova.
