The Death of Kim Shin-jo, the North Korean Soldier Who Attempted to Assassinate the Leader of South Korea

The only captured member of a team of 31 North Korean commandos who attempted to assassinate the military dictator of South Korea in 1968 has died at the age of 82. Kim Shin-jo and his team managed to infiltrate into Seoul, but were stopped by South Korean forces in a fierce gun battle. All the North Korean assassins were killed, except for two, one of whom was believed to have returned to the North. Mr. Kim surrendered and later became a Christian pastor in the capitalist South. His death was confirmed on Thursday by his church in Seoul, which cited old age as the cause.
