Officials in Bolivia arrested 20 individuals associated with Kailasa, accusing them of land trafficking after negotiations with Indigenous groups over long-term leases in the Amazon. The agreements were declared void, and the Kailasans were deported. Kailasa, whose leader is a fugitive holy man named Swami Nithyananda, has been accused of various moral offenses and claims to have created an official currency in sacred gold, among other things.
