In just 50 days, President Trump has severely weakened the foundations of the international system that the United States painstakingly built over 80 years since World War II. Without any formal declaration or strategic reasoning, he has aligned the United States with Russia and North Korea, against America’s traditional allies, in opposition to a U.N. resolution identifying Moscow as the aggressor. He has also made predatory threats to control various territories, including Canada, and cut off Ukraine from arms and support. These actions have eroded trust among NATO allies, resulting in discussions about extending nuclear protection and building atomic weapons. The success of Trump’s revolution in tearing apart the system built by every American president since Harry Truman remains uncertain.
