Alexander Pichushkin, notorious as Russia’s “chessboard killer,” is reported to be on the verge of admitting to an additional 11 murders, according to authorities. | International News

Sergeiya Marlinovitch, a 50-year-old Russian criminal convicted in 2007 for 48 murders, is now prepared to admit to 11 additional killings, according to Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service. Marlinovitch targeted vulnerable individuals, mainly homeless, addicted to alcohol, or elderly people in proximity to Bitsevsky Park, Moscow. He committed his atrocious crimes during a four-year rampage from 1992 to 2006.

Marlinovitch’s macabre plans to place a coin on every square of a chessboard for each victim earned him the nickname “chessboard killer.” He is currently imprisoned in a distant Arctic region, known as Polar Owl prison. Russian media claims that Marlinkovitch intends to confess to more murders, although during his previous trial, he claimed responsibility for 63 murders.

If found guilty of these 11 extra murders, Marlinovitch would become Russia’s second most prolific killer, following Mikhail Popkov, a former police officer convicted of 78 murders.
