Israeli tanks have entered the Occupied West Bank, following defence minister Israel Katz’s call for an escalation of operations, instructing troops to maintain a presence there for an extended period. The move marks the first time tanks have entered the region since the Second Intifada in 2002. According to Associated Press journalists, tanks were seen moving into Jenin shortly after the order. Since launching Operation Iron Wall on January 21st, over 40,000 Palestinians have been displaced and buildings along with refugee camps have been destroyed. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under pressure from his government’s far-right alliance to crack down on terrorist activities. Clashes with Jewish settlers have been deadly.
