The British charge d’affaires in Tehran has been called to Iran’s foreign ministry following the arrest of several Iranian nationals who are accused of terrorism and espionage. The British diplomat was asked to provide an explanation for the arrests, which state media claims are based on “false claims.” The British government will be held responsible for any negative consequences that may arise from these actions, as they are believed to be politically motivated. Four Iranian men were arrested as part of a counter-terrorism investigation earlier this month, and three of them appeared in court on spying charges. The fourth man was released without charge. In a separate operation, counter-terror officers also arrested five Iranian men at various locations in England. They were released but still face an investigation. The Metropolitan Police stated that these arrests were in relation to a suspected plot to target a specific location. The two counter-terror operations are not connected.
