British tennis player Francesca Jones was compelled to withdraw from a tournament in Colombia after fainting during her match against Argentina’s Julia Riera. The 24-year-old, who is ranked 129 in the world, collapsed in the third set of the Colsanitas Cup in Bogota and could not continue playing. She required assistance to leave the court in a wheelchair. The official X account of the Colsanitas Cup stated, “Due to a physical issue, Francesca Jones has withdrawn from her match against Julia Riera at 6-2 5-7 5-3 in favor of the Argentinian.” They also expressed their wishes for the British tennis player to recover quickly. Jones, who was born with the rare genetic condition Ectrodactyly Ectodermal Dysplasia, has also struggled with severe cramps throughout her career. She had lost the opening set 6-2 before recovering to win the second set 7-5, but was trailing 5-3 in the third set when she collapsed. Riera will now face the USA’s Iva Jovic in the next round.
