A captain of a ship which crashed at sea has been brought before the court in the UK.
Vladimir Motin, a 59-year-old man from Russia, was taken into custody after his appearance at Hull Magistrates’ Court last Saturday.
He has been charged with negligence causing death.
Motin had been captain of the Solong, a cargo ship, which collided with the US-registered oil tanker Stena Immaculate.
A member of Solong’s crew has lost his life
The deceased has been identified by the Crown Prosecution Service as Mark Angelo Pernia, a 38-year-old Filipino.
The crash occurred around 13 miles from the Yorkshire coast, leading dozens to abandon ship as fires broke out.
A large search and rescue operation was initiated to bring the crew members back to land.
