Following Paris Saint-Germain's first-ever victory in the Champions League on Saturday night, a series of conflicts with riot police transpired in the French capital.
Celebrations in Paris involved the ignition of flares and fireworks in response to PSG defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich — the most significant triump in a Champions League final’s history.
Approximately 5,400 police officers were deployed across the city after the match, with some using tear gas and pepper spray on the Champs-Élysées.
At the top of the Champs-Élysées, a water cannon was deployed to safeguard the Place de l’Étoile, adjacent to the iconic Arc de Triomphe.
Police reported that a sizable unaffiliated crowd attempted to forcibly breach a barrier to engage with officers.
In total, 131 arrests were made, including 30 individuals for breaking into a shoe shop on the Champs-Élysées.
Two vehicles were set on fire near Parc des Princes, according to police.
PSG striker Ousmane Dembele post-match in an interview with Canal+ urged calm: “Let’s celebrate but not destruct Paris.”
