Brazil's former president has been placed under house arrest during his trial for allegedly orchestrating a coup.</P>
<p>On Monday, Brazil's Supreme Court directed <strong><a href="https://news.sky.com/topic/jair-bolsonaro-7911/1" target="_blank">Jair Bolsonaro</a></strong> to remain at home and ordered the seizure of all mobile devices from his property following violations of legal restrictions prohibiting his use of social media.
Prosecutors claim the right-wing politician led a criminal organization that plotted to overturn the 2022 election and murder <strong><a href="https://news.sky.com/topic/lula-da-silva-10369/1" target="_blank">President Lula</a></strong> and a Supreme Court justice.
Additionally, Bolsonaro is accused of using social media to urge Donald Trump to interfere in his case.

<h3>'Flagrant Disrespect'</h3>
Under the new restrictions implemented on Monday, visitors authorized to see Bolsonaro will be barred from recording him or posting on his behalf.
This ruling followed the 70-year-old's use of his sons' social media channels to address supporters at a rally in <strong><a href="https://news.sky.com/topic/rio-5517/1" target="_blank">Rio de Janeiro</a></strong> on Sunday.
Through his son's mobile phone, he told the protesters: "Good afternoon, Copacabana, good afternoon my Brazil, a hug to everyone, this is for our freedom."
"The blatant disrespect for the precautionary measures was so evident that the defendant's son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, opted to remove the posting on his Instagram profile to conceal the legal infringement," the judge stated in his Monday decision.
<h3>'No Limits!'</h3>Bolsonaro's legal representatives argue against the new restrictions, claiming his words cannot be viewed as a disregard for preventative measures or as criminal behavior.
Flavio Bolsonaro contended on X that Brazil “is officially in a dictatorship” following his father’s house arrest.
The senator added: “The persecution by de Moraes against Bolsonaro has no limits!”
Last week, Mr. Trump referenced the trial, which he describes as a “witch hunt,” to justify the imposition of 50% tariffs on Brazil.
