A farmer named Jaime Alanis died after falling from a greenhouse roof during an anti-immigrant raid at a licensed cannabis facility in California. He is the first person to die as a result of ICE raids. His niece said he was the family’s only provider and had been sending his earnings to his wife and daughter in Mexico. The United Food Workers stated that these violent actions terrorize American communities, disrupt the food supply chain, and separate families. The Department of Homeland Security said they executed criminal search warrants and arrested 200 people suspected of being in the country illegally. Mr. Alanis was not among them. The agency also stated that four US citizens were arrested during the incident for allegedly resisting officers. Authorities were offering a $50,000 reward for information on a person suspected of firing a gun at federal agents. Glass House, a licensed cannabis grower, stated that immigration agents had valid warrants and that they are helping provide legal representation to the detained workers.
