Fear is growing that at least 47 individuals might be trapped following a glacier collapse in the Indian Himalayas, as reported by local media.
This event transpired in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand state, where construction workers were involved in road development.
Initially, local police mentioned that about 57 workers were affected by the incident.
“Out of those, 10 workers have been rescued and are in a critical condition, having been sent to the army camp near the village of Mana,” senior police officer Nilesh Anand Bharne informed news agency ANI.
Efforts to reach the affected area are hindered by heavy snowfall, as noted by ANI, citing another senior official.
The event’s location is 3 miles (5KM) from the famous Hindu temple of Badrinath, which attracts thousands of devotees annually.
