Transportation authorities state the bus, carrying 54 passengers, crashed and tipped over on Interstate 90 near Pembroke, approximately 30 miles (48km) east of Buffalo, New York, around 12.30pm (5:30pm UK time) on Friday.
In their announcement, New York State Police revealed the following as names of the deceased:
• Shankar Kumar Jha, 65, from Madhu Bani, India;
• Pinki Changrani, 60, from East Brunswick, New Jersey;
• Zhang Xiaolan, 55 from Jersey City, New Jersey;
• Jian Mingli, 56, from Jersey City;
• Xie Hongzhuo, a 22-year-old student at Columbia University, based in Beijing, China.

A statement released by Columbia University reveals deep sorrow over the loss, affirming their distress and compelling communion with the student's kinfolk.
“Our hearts go out to her family, for our community grieves deeply.”
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with her family, her friends, and all who are distressed by this calamity.”
Erie County Medical Center has shared, as of Saturday, that 14 of the 21 transported and treated, remain under their care, although stable.
Investigators are yet to unveil the cause of the crash, avoiding any other vehicles, though the driver’s cooperation is established and he remains uncharged.
State police major Andre Ray indicates the driver’s momentary lapse caused control loss and subsequent veering resulting in the overturn.
“Regrettably, an accident transpired. Initially, our thoughts, prayers, and sympathies extend to the involved parties and their networks.”
