At a significant round-table discussion with journalists at Stansted Airport, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had recently faced harsh remarks from Donald Trump, was unexpectedly absent. Instead, he appeared confident and optimistic upon entering the room, alongside a man visibly striving to project strength and resilience amidst uncertainty regarding his country’s and his own future.
Astonishingly, just 48 hours prior, he had essentially been expelled from the Oval Office following a devastating meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Despite this, in London he was warmly received by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and European leaders, as a symbol of solidarity.
During interactions with journalists, Zelenskyy avoided discussions about the White House drama and inquiries about his relationship with the US President, including whether he would apologize. When questioned about his future and possibilities of resignation, he indicated he would be exchangeable for NATO membership.
The characteristics that have made President Zelenskyy remarkable for years, including his exceptional communication skills, unfortunately worked against him and his nation during his dealings with the Trump administration.

The pivotal question now is whether the relationship with the US is beyond repair. Initially, Donald Trump had signaled continued US support, including arm supplies and the possibility of US military involvement. Although regaining that level of cooperation may be challenging, it does not seem entirely out of reach.
Thus, it is up to leaders like Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron to mediate and navigate these diplomatic waters.
