According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he is planning to dismiss the head of Shin Bet - the nation's main internal security agency.
Mr Netanyahu informed Ronen Bar during an urgent meeting on Sunday and announced this decision, which has immediately received criticism from opposition politicians.
“At all times, especially during an existential war – such as the one we face – there needs to be total trust between the prime minister and the head of Shin Bet,” Mr Netanyahu stated in a video message.
“Unfortunately, the situation is the opposite. I do not have such trust. I have an ongoing lack of trust in the Shin Bet’s head, a distrust that has been growing over time.”
The decision will be considered at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Though allies of Mr Netanyahu have backed this, the attorney general stated it cannot proceed until the “factual and legal basis” for the move is completely examined and validated.
