A British man in his 70s, identified as 79-year-old Edgar Charles Frederick, died after being struck by a vehicle in Kenyan President William Ruto’s motorcade on Thursday in Nairobi. The victim was on Ngong Road when the incident occurred. Kenyan police reported that the driver of the government vehicle was arrested but later released on bail.
The Foreign Office is providing support to the deceased’s family and staying in contact with local authorities. At the time of this incident, President Ruto was on his way to a public event, which marked the fourth day of his visit to the city. According to the BBC, the driver did not stop following the collision, which angered some Kenyans on social media, who questioned the speed of the presidential motorcade.
It was reported that Mr. Frederick was in Kenya to visit his sister and nephew, who are both residing in the country. The family has been notified about the death, and an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.
