Seven healthcare professionals who were part of the medical team treating Diego Maradona before his death are set to face trial for homicide in Buenos Aires.
The legendary footballer passed away after experiencing a heart attack at his home in Buenos Aires, where he was recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain in November 2020.
The charges against the medical team are centered on allegations of negligence contributing to his death.
Despite Maradona’s long-standing battles with obesity, alcoholism, and drug addiction, prosecutors concluded that his death could have been prevented with better medical care.
Seven out of the eight individuals charged, including Maradona’s brain surgeon, psychiatrist, and nurses, face the possibility of up to 25 years in prison.
