New Zealand Recalls UK Ambassador Over Criticism of Trump’s Historical Understanding | Global Affairs

The High Commissioner of New Zealand to the UK, Phil Goff, has been dismissed due to comments he made about US President Donald Trump. Goff had questioned Trump’s understanding of history while speaking at an event in London. Goff referenced a famous 1938 speech by Winston Churchill where he criticized British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain for signing the Munich Agreement. Goff said, “President Trump has restored the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office. But do you think he really understands history?” New Zealand’s Foreign Minister, Winston Peters, expressed disappointment with Goff’s comments, saying they made Goff’s position “untenable.”
