Over 90 Uncontrollable Wildfires Sweep Across Canada | International Affairs

Wildfires of enormous proportions have erupted across Canada, causing the evacuation of over 21,000 individuals and emitting toxic smoke into the atmosphere.

The provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan have declared a state of emergency, as multiple fires blaze out of control.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, is deploying the military to help evacuate residents and combat fires in Manitoba, where 17,000 individuals have had to flee their homes.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew referred to this as the largest evacuation in the province’s history.

In Saskatchewan, from where 4,000 people have escaped their residences, the situation is described as “as severe as anything we have faced for quite some period of time, if not ever,” by Premier Scott Moe.

With no end to the heatwave and due to the rising chance of a dry summer, these fires are anticipated to expand rapidly.

“I believe we are recognizing that things will worsen before improving,” Mr Moe stated.

Large parts of the nation are presently exceptionally arid and warm.

On Friday, with 175 wildfires actively burning, and 95 of those out of control, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, the country is experiencing extreme fire conditions.
