Palestine Red Crescent demands an independent investigation into Israel’s ‘atrocious’ killing of 15 aid workers | World News

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is calling for an independent investigation into the “atrocious” deaths of 15 aid workers killed by Israeli troops in Gaza in March. The group’s president, Dr. Younis al Khatib, has asked the UN Security Council to establish an investigation committee into the “intentional killing of the medics”. Speaking in Ramallah, he emphasized the need for those responsible to be held “accountable for these crimes” under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. Dr. al Khatib stressed the urgency of an “independent and thorough investigation of this heinous crime” and insisted that “no one should be above the law”. He questioned the Israeli forces, asking why the aid workers were killed, why their ambulances were destroyed afterward, and why they were buried deep. The Israeli military initially claimed that the vehicles did not have headlights or emergency signals and were targeted as they appeared “suspicious”. However, following the emergence of footage contradicting their account, showing the vehicles clearly marked as ambulances, the IDF admitted to making an error. The Israeli government later claimed that “six Hamas terrorists” were among those killed, but without providing evidence. Organizations such as the United Nations and the Palestinian Red Crescent challenge these claims, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability. The incident highlights ongoing tensions and the risk of misinformation in conflict zones, underscoring the vulnerability of aid workers who are protected under international human rights laws.
