The Prince of Wales recently joined UK troops in a Challenger 2 tank during his visit to a NATO base situated just under 100 miles from the Russian border. Prince William traveled in the tank’s commander turret, which sped across muddy terrain at Estonia’s Tapa army camp. During his visit, he observed soldiers from the Mercian Regiment participating in training exercises. As the Colonel-in-Chief of the Mercians, the prince took interest in their six-month deployment in Estonia, which marks the UK’s largest permanent overseas deployment. The prince was given a tour of various military vehicles and was allowed to drive an Archer, a mobile artillery vehicle, despite the threat Russia poses to the region and the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Prince William interacted with soldiers and talked to them about the reality of their training and preparedness. His visit was in support of Estonia, Ukraine, and NATO.
