South Korea: Rescue Efforts Fail to Save Man Trapped in Seoul Sinkhole | Global News

A man in South Korea has died after falling into a sinkhole, according to officials. The sinkhole, measuring approximately 20 meters deep and wide, emerged on Monday afternoon at an intersection in the Myeongil-dong neighborhood in eastern Seoul.

Emergency officer Kim Chang Seob reported that the sinkhole engulfed a man riding a motorbike and injured a woman driving a van as the ground collapsed. The man, in his 30s, was found dead during a search on Tuesday. He was wearing a helmet and motorcycle boots. Rescue workers also located his motorcycle and mobile phone.

Mr. Kim said that rescuers utilized equipment such as excavators and shovels to locate the motorcyclist. The woman sustained minor injuries, and the cause of the sinkhole is currently under investigation.
