Sudanese Armed Forces Declare Taking Over Presidential Residence | Global Updates

Sudan’s military has announced that they have regained control of the Republican Palace in Khartoum, marking the end of a nearly two-year conflict with rival paramilitary forces. The fighting in Sudan began in April 2023 due to a power struggle between military leaders and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in clashes in Khartoum and other cities.

Videos on social media showed military forces inside the palace on the 21st day of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims. A Sudanese military officer confirmed that the troops had entered the compound to retake control of the last strongly fortified RSF stronghold in the capital.

It was observed that the palace had suffered partial damage, with soldiers stepping on broken tiles as they moved through the area. Armed soldiers could be heard chanting “God is the greatest!” during the operation.
