Following a devastating attack on a church in Syria, at least 22 individuals have lost their lives when a suicide bomber initiated a shooting spree and then detonated an explosive vest.

Eyewitnesses mentioned that the perpetrator had his face obscured when he commenced shooting – and he detonated himself as onlookers attempted to restrain and remove him from the premises.

A security source informed Reuters that two men were involved in the attack, with a priest testifying that he observed another gunman at the entrance.

According to officials, a total of 63 individuals were injured, including children among the fatal casualties.

Syria’s Minister of Information, Hamza Mostafa, denounced the terrorist act – stating on X: “This cowardly act contradicts the civic principles that unite us.

“We remain undeterred in our commitment to equal citizenship… and we also confirm the state’s dedication to fight against criminal networks.”

Reports indicate that IS has endeavored to target various churches in Syria following Assad’s fall; however, this marks their first successful assault.

Films captured by Syria’s White Helmets depicted the devastation within the church – including bloodied floors and shattered pews.

Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its “unambiguous condemnation of the horrendous terrorist suicide bombing” and seeks assurance from Syria for the safety of Christians through additional measures.
