According to the latest update from The Vatican, Pope Francis is currently “resting” in the hospital, and the night was reported to have “gone well.
Following their statement on Sunday, which reported the Pope to be in a critical condition and experiencing an “initial, mild” kidney issue, The Vatican has mentioned that he remains “vigilant” and participated in hospital Mass with those caring for him.
The evening’s statement confirmed that despite being “vigilant and well-oriented,” the complexity of his condition means that his prognosis remains uncertain.
Pope Francis, aged 88, has been under treatment at Rome’s Gemelli hospital since February 14 for double pneumonia and chronic bronchitis.
A past history of respiratory issues includes the loss of part of one lung to pleurisy in his younger years and an acute case of pneumonia in 2023.
