On Day 64, Martha Kelner, US correspondent, is joined by KT McFarland, who held the position of deputy national security adviser under Donald Trump in the early, tumultuous months of his first term.

A veteran national security analyst with a background as a former Pentagon official during the Reagan administration, McFarland rose to prominence during the Trump transition and was later pulled into the Mueller investigation – an extensive almost two-year inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Martha and KT address why McFarland believes Trump is steering international talks on issues such as Ukraine, Russia, and beyond, and KT also offers her defense of Elon Musk’s involvement at the Pentagon.
