Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, at the invitation of the Ukrainian government. The Duke of Sussex, who served 10 years in the British Army, traveled to the city to assist in the recovery of military personnel seriously injured in the ongoing conflict with Russia, according to a spokesperson for the royal family.
The initiative comes at a time of heightened tension, with Russia and Belarus starting a significant joint military exercise called Zapad-2025 near NATO borders. This exercise, which involves drills in both countries and in the Baltic and Barents seas, is seen as a demonstration of force by Russia and its close ally Belarus. It follows an incident where Poland, supported by its NATO allies, intercepted suspected Russian drones in its airspace.
Earlier this week, Harry, who also served two tours in Afghanistan, mentioned that the King is in a great condition, following a private tea at Clarence House. This was their first meeting after 19 months, lasting 54 minutes. Their last meeting occurred in February 2024 when the prince returned to the UK after the King announced his cancer diagnosis.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have been living in California since they stepped down from their roles as senior working royals in March 2020.
