A man died on Saturday after being attacked by a presumed large shark near Dee Why, Sydney’s northern beaches.
Around 10 AM, emergency services in New South Wales were called to Long Reef Beach following reports of a man suffering critical injuries.
He was found in the surf and brought to the shore, but unfortunately passed away at the scene, according to NSW police.
The beach was closed, and officers were expected to work with experts from the department of primary industries to determine the type of shark involved.
Two parts of a surfboard were recovered and sent for expert examination, police stated.
Beaches from Manly to Narrabeen were closed pending further advice.
