A 19-year-old surfer has been located safely on a remote island off the northern NSW coast, following a frantic search after his father posted a desperate plea for assistance on social media. Terry Deefholts, the father of missing surfer Darcy Deefholts, had feared the worst, appealing for boats, beach walkers, drones, 4WDs, and air support to aid in the rescue efforts. Darcy had left home on a bike to go surfing at Wooli beach but failed to return. An extensive search including local police, PolAir, Marine Area Command, and Marine Rescue eventually found him safe on North Solitary Island Nature Reserve, approximately 14 kilometers off the coast. Terry expressed relief and gratitude for the community’s efforts in the search and described the rescue as a “one in a million miracle.”
