Erin Patterson’s estranged husband has denied accusing her of using mushrooms to poison the guests at the deadly lunch in Leongatha, South Gippsland, in 2023. Patterson, who faces charges of murder and attempted murder related to the lunch, pleaded not guilty. On Monday, Simon gave evidence in court, stating that he and Patterson could have been alone on different occasions while she was in treatment at Monash medical centre. He also mentioned messages exchanged between them, including some shared with his parents through a Signal group chat. Mandy, Patterson’s lawyer, questioned Simon about the messages, but it was revealed that not all messages were read in court. Under reexamination from prosecutor Nanette Rogers SC, Simon said he was relieved his mother didn’t read certain messages due to her anxiety. The trial, sitting in Morwell, continues to explore various charges against Patterson.
