Activists accuse militant attacks on Gaza aid flotilla with explosions and drones | Palestine

A Gaza-bound flotilla has reported explosions and drone activity targeting their vessels near Greece. The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) stated that they experienced drones, dropped unidentified objects, communications interference, and explosions. The activists expressed that, despite these “psychological operations,” they will not be deterred.

German activist Yasemin Acar informed via social media that five ships have been targeted. Earlier, Acar noted the presence of 15 to 16 drones and also mentioned that radio communications were disrupted by loud music.

One video from the flotilla’s Instagram showed an explosion aboard the Spectre boat. Brazilian activist Thiago Avila also reported on Instagram that drones were dropping devices on four boats before another explosion occurred.

Last month, the GSF suffered similar drone attacks while in Tunisia, though no one was injured. The Tunisian interior ministry dismissed some of those reports as unfounded.

The GSF, which includes environmental activist Greta Thunberg, left from Barcelona in late August to challenge the siege of Gaza. Currently, the flotilla comprises 51 ships, most of which are near Crete in Greece.

Israel has stated its opposition to the flotilla’s arrival in Gaza and previously blocked two attempts by activists to reach the area by sea in June and July.
