Albanese reveals Australian government’s openness to possibly deploying troops to Ukraine | Foreign Affairs of Australia

The Australian Prime Minister has stated that his government will consider any proposal to deploy troops to Ukraine as part of a multinational peacekeeping force, as European nations discuss the possibility of a “coalition of the willing” to enforce a peace agreement. Meanwhile, US military aid to Ukraine has been halted, following a clash between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. White House officials have confirmed the pause in aid, stating that it is under review to ensure it contributes to brokering a peace in the long-running conflict. European nations, led by Britain and France, are working on a peace plan that they hope will be backed by a US security guarantee, but Moscow has stated its opposition to the presence of European troops on the ground. The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has reiterated his country’s support for Ukraine, stating that Australia stands ready to assist in any peacekeeping efforts and will consider any proposals for troop deployment. Australian troops have not been deployed to support peacekeeping forces in Ukraine at this time, but the opposition leader, Peter Dutton, has stated that Australia will not consider sending troops.
