A 54-year-old man has been arrested under suspicion of murder following a fire at a historic stationmaster’s house, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a four-year-old girl. The incident occurred in Rushton, near Kettering, when emergency services received reports of a significant blaze at a property on Beswick Close around 10:30 PM on Friday.

The other victims are identified as a 30-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, according to Northamptonshire police, who provided this information on Sunday. The suspect, hailing from Kettering, was apprehended on Saturday on charges of murder and remains in custody.

The police have ensured that the families of the victims have been notified and are receiving support from specially trained officers. In a statement released on Sunday, Chief Inspector Paul Cash stated that the incident has caused profound distress in the local community and assured that officers will continue to provide support and aid as needed.

He further added that the investigation is ongoing, with one arrest made so far, and that updates regarding the investigation will be shared as they become available. The investigation is described as being in the early stages and will require time to determine the full details of the incident.

The structure in question, a 19th-century stationmaster’s house from the now-closed Glendon and Rushton railway station, is a Grade II-listed building according to Historic England and is currently used as a residential property.
