Culture experts worry about the government’s commitment to restoring arts education in English schools. Some fear that Labour may have “lost the plot” and could be worse on arts funding than the previous Conservative government. Labour initially promised to provide more opportunities for working-class children by expanding the curriculum with activities like drama, art, music, and sports. However, proposals by Labour that would allow artificial intelligence companies to use copyrighted materials without permissions have shaken the confidence in the party among artists. There are calls to scrap the English baccalaureate (Ebacc), which students must study and excludes arts subjects.
