Bookmaker Betr in Australia alleged to have obtained more than 50% of January’s betting winnings from just 20 individuals, raising gambling concerns.

A leading Australian bookmaker is facing allegations from Pointsbet, which is resisting a takeover attempt by Betr, over claims that more than half of its January gambling profits came from just 20 customers. Despite an agreement for both companies to share financial information during early negotiations, Pointsbet contends that Betr has a risky gambling customer base that could expose shareholders to compliance and regulatory risks. The dispute comes amid ongoing debates on gambling advertising and regulation, including recommendations from the late Labor MP Peta Murphy for a federal ban following a transition period.
