The government of Queensland has unveiled plans to construct a new $3.8 billion, 63,000-seat venue at Victoria Park in Brisbane. This is part of their strategy to prepare for the hosting of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As outlined in their “delivery plan”, the state intends to build a variety of new facilities. The famous Gabba stadium is set for demolition and will be replaced with a residential development. The long-planned Brisbane Live Arena won’t receive the originally allocated $2.5 billion in Commonwealth funding. The premier, David Crisafulli, stated that the private sector will handle the construction of an entertainment hub project at an adjacent old industrial site. He described the planned aquatic center in Victoria Park as “the best in the world.” The project aims to develop an exciting new sports and entertainment complex in the heart of Brisbane. The aquatic center will have main and secondary stadiums, with a capacity to hold over 25,000 spectators during the Games and 8,000 afterwards. Renovations are also planned for the Brisbane Showgrounds, which will host the athletes’ village. Improvements to the Queensland Tennis Centre will include a new arena and additional courts. Other plans include the creation of new indoor sports centers and a whitewater rafting center.
