BTS members, RM and V, have been released from their mandatory military service obligations in South Korea. They were honored and cheered by around 200 fans upon their discharge in Chuncheon City on Tuesday. Some fans even traveled from Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil to witness the event and support their favorite artists.
Jin, the oldest member of BTS, was previously discharged from the army in June 2024. J-Hope followed in October. Jimin and JungKook are set to be discharged on Wednesday, while the seventh member, Suga, is serving as a social service agent, and will be released later this month.
The seven members of BTS are scheduled to reunite as a group in 2025. In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 are required to complete 18 to 21 months of military service, aimed at maintaining deterrence against North Korea. While athletes and musicians can receive special exemptions based on certain criteria, K-pop stars and other entertainers generally do not qualify for such privileges. However, BTS members were able to delay their enlistment until the age of 30, following a revision in the Military Service Act.
