Canva co-founder Cameron Adams and his wife, Lisa Miller, have joined The Giving Pledge, a commitment by the world’s wealthiest philanthropists to donate their wealth to charitable causes, initiated by Warren Buffet and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The couple, who have a combined worth of approximately $6.81bn, pledge to dedicate the majority of their assets to addressing environmental challenges.
Adams highlighted the importance of natural ecosystems and the urgency to protect them for future generations. He and Miller share the belief that their success provides them with the responsibility to contribute to meaningful causes. As members of The Giving Pledge, they join over 240 affluent philanthropists from around the globe, with only a few Australians among them.
Other Canva co-founders, Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht, also committed to the pledge, aiming to use their graphic design platform to support charitable initiatives. Adams’ commitment will soon extend to a significant portion of his accumulated wealth in Canva equity, which he and Miller had previously committed to donating via their environmental investment firm, the Wedgetail Foundation.
Adams emphasized their dedication to environmental issues and their belief that taking action is vital for the planet’s survival. The Giving Pledge typically involves individuals with a net worth of at least $1bn or those who might be billionaires if not for their charitable giving. Len Ainsworth, an Australian businessman, became a pledge member in 2017, preferring to manage his philanthropy privately yet recognising the importance of leading by example.
