Child of Mushroom Lunch Victim Testifies Emotionally, Claims Mom Said Meal Was Fine Before Fatal Incident in Victoria

Children of Lunch Guests Testify in Erin Patterson’s Triple Murder Trial

Anna Terrington, Matthew Patterson, and Ruth Dubois, children of the victims, have given evidence at Erin Patterson’s trial, which is ongoing in Victoria’s supreme court in Morwell. Patterson, 50, is accused of serving a poisoned beef wellington lunch that resulted in the deaths of Don and Gail Patterson, Heather Wilkinson, and attempted murder of Ian Wilkinson. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges, relating to her estranged husband’s family members.

Anna Terrington, who had known Patterson since 2005 and remained friends despite the separation between Patterson and Simon, testified that her parents had a positive relationship with Patterson, echoing Matthew Patterson’s account that their relationship remained “status quo.” Matthew, who works as a church pastor, noted a decline in communication between Patterson and his brother after their separation. Dubois, who stated she was only an acquaintance of Patterson, expressed surprise at her mother’s luncheon invitation from Patterson, who claimed she was inviting “the two she was looking for” after a church service.

The court has also received evidence from medical witnesses detailing the treatment and care provided to the victims and verified that Patterson had never been diagnosed with cancer, contrary to her claims of a cancer diagnosis made to her lunch guests.

The trial continues, with further details set to be heard regarding the deadly meal and its aftermath.
