Columbia University and the Trump Administration Reach Financial Agreement Totaling Over $220 Million

Columbia University has reached an agreement with the Trump administration to pay over $220 million in order to prevent massive funding cuts. The deal includes a $200 million settlement over three years to the federal government and an additional $21 million to settle investigations brought by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Under the agreement, the university will overhaul its student disciplinary process and adopt a new definition of antisemitism. Critics argue that this agreement goes too far in acquiescing to the administration’s demands. The deal also includes steps to combat antisemitism on campus, including new training measures. An independent monitor will oversee the progress of the agreement.
