Democrat Cory Booker raised his voice on the Senate floor with a marathon session to alert everyone of the “grave and urgent” threat facing democracy and Americans because of the Trump administration. Starting at 7 PM on Monday evening, Booker spoke for over 12 hours without a break by 7 AM Tuesday. Reiterating the “crisis” he believed the nation was in, Booker emphasized the disregard for constitutional principles in Trump’s policies. He continued to criticize spending cuts, the attempt to disband the Department of Education, and the administration’s disregard for the judicial system. Senator Chuck Schumer commended Booker for his conviction and strength, supporting his stance. The unexpected speech referenced speeches from former politicians and excerpts from news articles, aiming to expose the harmful effects of the Trump administration on America. Although not a filibuster technically, Booker used his time to voice his concerns about the government’s direction.
