A motorway bridge collapse in Anseong, approximately 70 kilometers from Seoul, has resulted in at least three fatalities and seven injuries. The incident occurred on Tuesday when five 50-meter steel support structures fell consecutively after being lifted into place by a crane. The collapse was filmed by the rear-facing dashcam of a car driving on the road underneath.
The national fire agency confirmed the deaths and reported that six individuals, including some in critical condition, are among the injured. Another person is believed to be buried under the rubble and authorities are actively searching for them.
Rescue workers are currently inspecting the twisted metal struts and fragmented concrete slabs beneath the highway bridge to find any remaining survivors. South Korea’s acting president, Choi Sang-mok, has called for the mobilization of all available personnel and resources to prioritize rescue efforts and ensure public safety.
The transport ministry has deployed officials to the scene to assist in the ongoing operations.
