Diane Warren’s remarkable yet disappointing streak at the 97th Academy Awards continued as she faced defeat in the Best Song category. The winners were Clément Ducol and Camille, who triumphed for “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez. Warren, contending with “The Journey” from Tyler Perry’s film “The Six Triple Eight,” about the 6,888th all-Black, all-female battalion during the second world war, fell short despite her strong nomination. This marks Warren’s eighth consecutive nomination without a win since her first in 1987, setting a record for a female songwriter. Warren holds the title of the most Oscar nominations by a female songwriter, surpassing Marilyn Bergman’s 15 nominations. While Greg P Russell holds the record for the most nominations without a win, indicating the intense competition in the category. Warren, a prolific songwriter with nine US No 1 hits and 33 top-10 singles, including famous tracks like Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” has been awarded an honorary Oscar and numerous other accolades like the Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globes, Ivor Novello, and Billboard Music awards. Despite her latest loss, Warren’s contributions to music remain highly regarded and celebrated.
