Peter Dutton has denied reports of a strained relationship with mining magnate Gina Rinehart despite differing views on the Coalition’s gas market policy. During a campaign appearance in Sydney, Dutton stated that while there are points of disagreement with Rinehart and others, this does not impact personal relationships or friendship. This comes after claims that Dutton’s plan to lower gas prices and the Coalition’s net-zero policy have caused a rift with Rinehart, a major backer of the Coalition. Rinehart herself has confirmed that their friendship remains strong despite policy differences. The gas industry and Rinehart’s investment in a Queensland gas producer, Senex, have been affected by the proposed policy to cap gas prices. However, sources suggest the relationship remains intact with no substantial consequences arising from the disagreement.
