The Prince Charles Cinema in central London is considering expanding to a second location despite ongoing discussions regarding its future at its original site. Known for showcasing a diverse range of cult films from the history of cinema, the independent cinema has expressed interest in reopening the old Stratford Picturehouse in east London.
Negotiations are currently under way with the current owner, Zedwell LSQ Ltd, regarding the future of the Leicester Square location. However, the cinema’s expansion plans extend beyond this, with the possibility of establishing several new branches.
The cinema had previously considered taking over the Filmhouse in Edinburgh, although it was reopened this year after a period of closure and refurbishment. Stratford, which has seen significant regeneration following the 2012 London Olympics, could potentially become a suitable location for the new outpost.
This move is seen as part of a broader effort to bring the cinema’s unique film offerings to new audiences, with the potential to establish a third or fourth location in the future.
