Elon Musk Steps Down from Government Position Following Tax Bill Disagreement with Trump

Elon Musk has announced on social media his decision to step down from his position within the Trump administration. The White House confirmed this departure during a press release on Wednesday. Musk expressed his gratitude to President Trump on X for providing him with the opportunity to cut down on excess spending. He also emphasized that the DoGE mission, which focuses on reducing waste, will continue and even strengthen within the government.

A White House representative confirmed that Musk is indeed leaving the administration and the process of finalizing his exit is underway. Musk, who holds the title of the world’s richest person, defended his role as an unelected official with special authority granted by Trump to dismantle certain parts of the US government. His appointment lasted for 130 days and was set to conclude around May 30th.

Both Musk and the administration are committed to continuing DoGE’s efforts to restructure and downsize the federal government. Musk has been signaling his intention to leave and return to his business ventures, criticizing Trump’s spending plan and expressing frustration with the limited progress in improving the efficiency of the government. He also mentioned feeling overwhelmed by the scale of bureaucratic challenges.

Musk publicly acknowledged that the DoGE team has faced significant criticism, especially when things went awry within the Trump administration. Despite the setbacks, Trump and DoGE have managed to initiate substantial workforce reductions, slicing nearly 12% of the 2.3 million-strong federal civilian workforce. Musk also voiced his disappointment with the Republican tax and budget bill’s substantial spending that might offset DoGE’s cost-cutting efforts.

His political activities have led to protests, with some investors urging Musk to prioritize Tesla amidst his advisory role for Trump.
