The trial for Erin Patterson, accused of murdering her in-laws by serving a lunch with poisonous mushrooms, has commenced in a Victorian court. Patterson, 50 years old, is charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The alleged crimes occurred during a beef wellington lunch at her South Gippsland home in 2023. A 15-member jury has been selected for the Supreme Court trial, and Patterson has pleaded not guilty to the charges. She stands accused of murdering Simon Patterson’s parents, his aunt, and attempting to murder his uncle. Opening statements are set to be delivered on Wednesday by the prosecutor, Nanette Rogers SC, and Patterson’s lawyer, Colin Mandy SC. The trial, presided over by Justice Christopher Beale, is ongoing in Morwell.
