Essential poll results: Labor edges out Coalition in final poll before election, Dutton’s popularity declines further | Essential survey

According to the latest Guardian Essential poll, Labor continues to lead the Coalition 52% to 48% on a two-party basis with just days left in the campaign for the election. Anthony Albanese’s approval rating has seen a slight increase, while Peter Dutton’s rating has decreased for the fourth poll in a row. The poll found that more individuals have shifted their support to Labor in light of the campaign over recent weeks. Additionally, two-thirds of Australians indicated that they are deciding their vote based on expectations of who will leave them better off in three years, rather than comparing their current situation to what it was three years ago.

The final Essential poll before the poll found that 32% of voters would give Labor their first preference, compared to 34% for the Coalition and 13% for the Greens. 10% of first-preference support was garnered by One Nation, 2% by Trumpet of Patriots, and 9% by other independents.

The Australian afternoon update from The Guardian explained the key stories of the campaign and positive differences and impacts. The newsletter promotion highlights the election campaign stories of the day, discussing what is happening and why it matters.

The Guardian Essential poll is aligned with all other published polls. However, the Coalitions has recently claimed that internal research has presented a more favorable picture for Dutton’s prospects of forming the government.

The poll responded to whether the election campaign affected their vote, with respondents indicating a higher likelihood of voting for Labor compared to the Coalition. Moreover, a majority of respondents expressed that they are thinking about which party would improve their financial situation in three years, rather than their current comparison to three years ago.
